My journey to Merlia...
Various circumstances in my life and what I believe to be my innate guiding system have continually turned my attention to the following question: “How are we meant to live as human beings” ?
In my search for answers, I studied what was available on how human beings move through the world. I did a degree in sexology, a certificate in Theology as a pre-requisite to a Masters in Individual and couple counseling at Saint-Paul University.
After having practiced as a psychotherapist for 4 years, I entered the public service and soon began the process of learning about leadership development. As I continued to evolve in my own personal journey and learned about supporting individuals and groups in becoming leaders, there are certain key beliefs that came to guide me in my life and in my work.
I believe, as expressed by the great philosopher Teilhard de Chardin, that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience. One that is uniquely manifested through each and everyone of us . At the same time, there is an essential space where we are all connected and the same.
My belief is that our reality first takes shape in the invisible realm (mental, emotional, energetic), before being translated to the physical world. In other words, being (essence) informs doing and outcomes (form).
For me, this greater awareness of who we are as human beings, along with tools and processes to transcend our perceived limitations, can support us in continually becoming a living expression of our greatest potential, both individually and collectively. From my perspective, this is the greater purpose of our lives.
I feel most alive, creative, moved, open, awed and inspired when I engage from that authentic and fresh impulse within and invite others to see that possibility for themselves.
I have always had a great desire to create a life for myself where there was no separation between who I am on the inside, and my life on the outside. A big step in this evolution was the creation of Merlia.
Merlia is the female principle of Merlin, the magician. The energy of Merlia is one that mirrors in us the integrated creative force that we are, inviting us to take back our power from the inside out. By integrated I mean that it embraces both aspects of mind and heart, evolving the traditional notion of “power over” to “power from within” or empowerment.
This sentiment is so beautifully reflected in Gandhi’s wise words:
We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do."
Which has been popularly summarized by:
Be the change you want to see in the world."
